Arnold, an Arkansas Baptist board member, donated the collection to benefit the school’s visual arts program. “Anyone who knows me is aware of my passion for all the arts. I’m excited to see growth in our visual arts program and hope the collection will inform and inspire our students,” Arnold said.

The collection is comprised of nearly 1000 limited edition lithographs with an appraised value of over $170,000. “We are enormously grateful for the Arnolds and their continued support of Arkansas Baptist,” David Sanders, Arkansas Baptist director of development, said. “Our students, both present and future, will benefit from this wonderful gift.”

Gov. Mark Darr told Arkansas Baptist junior and senior high students at chapel on Thursday.

Darr, Arkansas’ 15th Lieutenant Governor, said that verse was significant to him because his wife, Kim, would always reference it at the bottom of notes and letters she would send him while they were both students at Ouachita Baptist University.

Darr said he took the scripture reference for granted until some years later when he looked it up and actually read the verse. Now in politics, Darr explained to the students that it is easy to get focused on himself, but that it’s extremely important for him to keep his focus on God.

He encouraged the students to put God first and to begin making good decisions now. “What you do now on this mobile phone can impact your life for years to come,” Darr said while holding his iPhone.

Darr closed his chapel speech by reading and then explaining the meaning of the lyrics from the popular contemporary Christian song “Always.”

“It’s always a joy for our students to see and hear from leaders in both business and government who are unapologetically Christian,” Randy Goldsmith, high school principal, said.

It was a great honor for Arkansas Baptist to host Lt. Gov. Darr; we look forward to having him back.

Davis shared his testimony of how the positive influences in his life helped lead him to Christ. He said godly men and his wife Leah pointed him to a deeper relationship with Christ.

Citing verse after verse, Davis explained the packed gymnasium of 400 junior and senior high school students that Christ’s plan for their lives was to have clear communication. “If you knew you could go up to you room every day and that sitting on your pillow was an envelope with instructions on how to live your life, you’d run up there every day. That’s what the Bible is,” said Davis.

He added that prayer and scripture reading is essential for Christians both young and old.

He and Leah have four children: Rebekah, Rachel, Sarah and Emerson. They have four grandchildren: Avery, Dalton, Sawyer, and Noah.

He became a Christian in 1986 and attends Fellowship Bible Church in West Little Rock. He has served with various ministries over the years including being on staff with Men’s Fraternity-which focuses on building a definition of authentic manhood through Jesus Christ.

Davis has been in the financial services industry for 30 yrs. Until 1990, he worked for National brokerage firms, Prudential Bache and EF Hutton. In 1994, he founded Davis and Associates, which provided finance and insurance consulting services for individuals, corporations and bank holding companies.

In 2002, he sold his company to Stephens Inc. in Little Rock, Arkansas. He is currently a Senior VP with Stephens Consulting Services LLC, specializing in consulting with institutional clients regarding to their overall benefits packages.

After the meal, the staff had the opportunity to pick out several gift cards from local restaurants and stores such as Wal-mart, Target, etc. The gift cards were given by high school parents. The teachers were very excited and grateful for the parent support at our school.

Teachers also participated in their annual Dirty Santa gift exchange. This is always a great time for teachers, but the event has become very competitive. Teachers did not have any problem “robbing” their neighbor to get a gift. Some of our teachers have become very creative through the years with their gifts. Some gifts are awesome such as gift cards, candles, books, mugs, etc. , while other gifts were very different and creative.

The ABHS staff would like to thank the PTF and parents of ABHS for their kindness and hard work. We are truly blessed at Arkansas Baptist High School with a great staff and wonderful parent support.

My purpose in teaching Spanish is to glorify God through the development of each student’s ability to communicate the language effectively. My belief is that the Christian student, who understands and uses the Spanish language well, can have a far-reaching, rewarding ministry for Christ amongst Hispanic people.

Little did I know when I assigned my students the task of sharing their faith with each other in Spanish the impact it would have on each of them. They each received their own Spanish New Testament and were asked to share their faith with a classmate. The classmate was allowed to challenge their faith. There was no way they could prepare for the challenge as they did not know who their partner would be until right before they presented. However, they were able to prepare with Scripture and their study of the Spanish language. All was done in Spanish!

One student had tears in her eyes when she finished and said, “Thank you for making us do that! I can now do it in two languages!” Another said when she was finished, “My heart feels so good!” I must say, our students excelled greatly in this very challenging project; not only in their use of the Spanish language, but also in the ability of leading someone to Christ! Isn’t that what life is all about? To God be the Glory for the opportunity to both teach and learn at Arkansas Baptist High School!
